If you are here for your Wednesday photo, it’s down at the bottom.
We went to see Black Panther this weekend. Obviously. We had the shirts. I bought the Funko Pop! figures. We were ready.
And it was glorious. I’m not going to spoil it. I’m not going to *over* analyze it. I’m not going to give points and counter points or talk about how Erik Killmonger was just a beefcake hotep. To put it quickly, it’s a fantastic movie. The plot is great. The women are great. The special effects are great. And I’m extremely ready for Infinty Wars. I am deeply embedded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Anyway, I am old and feel ways about things. I enjoy my MSNBC on screen and even in the car when I’m driving. I listen to podcast by people of color or by women. I still go to book club meetings when I didn’t even buy the book cause I need black girl time.
Tuesday I was dropping off some copies of The Hate U Give to a mom in the school district that was looking for copies for her daughters. While I was in the area, I swung by the two Little Free Libraries I’ve been using to put more copies of the book. When I got to the one in the Firethorne neighborhood, there was a sign stating that the books in that particular library were for kids 15 and under. If it was an adult themed book, it needed to go in the 15+ library located in the gym. The neighborhood gym that’s only accessible by card key. They want to make sure that the book isn’t given to young kids. Cause…harmful? (Fun Fact: They now have 6 additional copies of The Hate U Give)
Addy was all psyched to put on this temporary tattoo that’s supposed to “come alive” when you scan it on this app and I told her it probably doesn’t work cause her skin is brown.
All of that to say that maybe the most important thing about Black Panther is that it came at a time when we are knee deep in Tr*mp’s America where it’s nice to escape for 2 hours and 15 minutes into a utopia where the default is black, there’s more than one type of woman represented, and the smartest person in the movie is a 16 year old princess.
Wakanda Forever.
Ugh! That third picture, laughing! 😍😍😍
I need a “love” button. And you need another platform to share your blog where everyone can see it. Until then, I’m going to share it. Thanks for being true to yourself. Love you much!!!!!!
I don’t go to the movies anymore and even I am like I have to go see Black Panther.
